What’s New at Tahoe Ski Resorts This Season

Reno Tahoe boasts 18 world-class ski resorts, each one offering something unique and regularly upgrading their parks to make your snow adventures better than before. Here is a sneak peak of what’s new at some of our ski resorts this season…

Mt. Rose Ski Tahoe – Innovations to their trails and snowmaking abilities have taken place at this mountain. Their beginner terrain has been enhanced with four new trails, giving snow newbies a larger area to play at while enhancing their abilities. The resort’s scheduled opening day is November 18, 2016. Diamond Peak – This community-owned resort overlooking Lake Tahoe celebrates its 50th year anniversary deals including 44 complimentary non-holiday lift tickets at 11 partner resorts across the country such as Boreal Mountain Resort, Homewood Mountain Resort, and June Mountain Ski Area, plus eight resorts in Montana, Colorado, and Arizona. Pass holders, bring a friend and receive four discounted lift tickets they can use when visiting this intimate resort. Don’t miss the Last Tracks event every Saturday beginning in February 2017. You can enjoy fine wine and craft brews paired with tasty appetizers before skiing or snowboarding down the mountain at sunset. Tickets to this event include a lift ticket valid from 2:00-4:00 p.m. Must be 21 years old to attend the event. Also, The Diamond Peak Rental & Repair shop will be stocking up with the latest ski and snowboards available for demo rentals. The anticipated opening day is December 15, 2016. Northstar California – Best known for their excellent family experience, Northstar in enhancing their offerings by expanding their private-lesson program and a VIP area on the East Ridge run. The resort is also introducing a fresh Thai dish food truck for easier access for skiers to grab a quick bite while enjoying a day of fresh powder. Opening day is November 23, 2016. Squaw Valley USA – Voted North America’s best ski resort in 2016 and site to the Winter Olympic Games in 1960, Squaw Valley is a wonderful mountain with an outdoor spirit that is reflected by the beautiful nature of Lake Tahoe. A new Squaw Alpine mobile app is enhanced with advanced purchase options, facilitates navigation on the slopes and allows members of a group keep track of one another. In order to keep more terrain open more of the time, snowmaking and mountain grooming is going to be kept at its all-time high with new equipment. Avalanche control has also been improved for a safer snow season and it is the first Tahoe-based resort to install a Gazex Interia Exploder in efforts to control avalanches before they become a hazard. Two ticket service areas have been added to improve the guest experience for the 2016-17 season. Opening day is November 23, 2016. Boreal Mountain – Boreal has five terrain parks, an indoor playland with tramploines, foam pits, skate park and more, and their Playland Tubing area with five groomed lanes where they added a second moving carpet to reduce wait times this year. Heavenly – A new tutorial based YouTube video series that offers tips at all levels of expertise is among Heavenly’s innovations this year. Also, a co-working space on the mountain has been added for remote professionals who want to expand their office duties with time on the slopes. After going all-in on the mountain, you can keep going at Unbuckle Après with DJ’s, dancers and discounted drinks. The mountain opens November 18, 2016.
