Truckee River Activities
Reno Tahoe is an all-seasons destination, offering outdoor activities for anytime of the year. The copious amount of snow that covered the Sierras this past winter was the gift that keeps giving. Snow that powdered the mountains a few short months ago means that the Truckee is now flowing fast and strong and it’s the perfect place for some fun in the sun. With the dog days of summer upon us, we’re sure that the Truckee River will make the perfect host for some summer fun!
Kayaking
For those adrenaline junkies out there, consider kayaking the Truckee River. The Truckee River Whitewater Park hosts the annual Reno River Festival, a premier kayaking event. With a combination of beginner and advanced runs available, anyone can give it a try. Some rental and tour options in Reno include Tahoe Whitewater Tours and Sierra Adventures.

Tubing
There are few better ways to spend a hot summer day than floating the Truckee River. Offering tube rentals and shuttle service to the starting location, Tahoe Whitewater Tours is located on Island Ave. in downtown Reno. The $6 per hour tube rental fee includes shuttle service to the drop-off locations of Mayberry Park or Crissy Caughlin Park. Tube may become your favorite method of transportation this summer!
Swimming
If you’re looking for some more relaxed fun, or just a way to cool of from the searing summer sun, Truckee River Whitewater Park holds some great swimming areas. Once you’re chilled to the bone, this area is also the ideal spot to bask in the sun and soak up some Vitamin D.

Rafting
For those thrill seekers out there, the Truckee River is calling your name. Rafting the Truckee can be a great option for larger groups. Rafters can travel from Verdi to Mayberry for a nine-mile, adrenaline-filled journey. Participants will enjoy class II-III rapids and a 15-foot drop off, courtesy of “Gorilla Falls.” This nine-mile, half-day trip is offered April-June. Reservations are required.
