Thanksgiving Weekend Events
Thanksgiving is a time for appreciation, food and time spent relaxing with loved ones, but if your Turkey meal didn’t make you too sleepy Reno Tahoe has you covered with some fun, local activities you can enjoy. So here’s what we’re going to do. We’re going to give a summarized guide for those who would prefer to keep busy over the long Thanksgiving weekend.
Get Your Run On
Before you are too full to function, there will be two local 10K runs/walks on Thursday, November 24 (Thanksgiving Day). The Scheels Turkey Trot, taking place at the Sparks Marina, has become a local holiday tradition where family and friends can kick off a Thanksgiving feast the healthy way. All proceeds benefit Keep Truckee Meadows Beautiful for local beautification projects and the City of Sparks Youth Scholarship Fund. The event begins and ends in the Scheels at Legends at Sparks Marina parking lot bright and early so you have enough time to get back home to enjoy your Thanksgiving meal.
Partnered to help The Childrens Cabinet, the 2nd annual Wobble Before you Gobble 5K/10K run will also be taking place Thanksgiving morning in the brand new City Plaza in downtown Reno. Starting at 9:00 am, this course will run through the new Virginia St. Bridge and follow the Truckee River Path to Idlewild Park (Where the 5K runners will turn around). Friends, family and strollers (allowed for the 5K only) are all welcomed to wobble some calories out so you can gobble some holiday ones in after!
Multitalented comedian, actor, and writer Rodney Carrington will be performing in Reno on Friday, November 25 . Head over to Silver Legacy Resort Casino and get a good laugh in with your family and friends the day after Thanksgiving. Click here for tickets and more information.
Also coming to Reno to celebrate the holiday weekend, Bill Engvall, one of the top comdeians in our country, will be taking the stage on Saturday, November 26 for one night only at the Atlantis Casino Resort Spa. The Animal Ark will be open during Thanksgiving weekend. Come observe these creatures as they commence to wear their beautiful thick coats they develop for the colder temperatures. All are invited to bring fresh poultry and donations to treat the animals, which will help supplement the parks food costs during the winter. Reno Beer Crawl
Beer enthusiasts, this one goes out to you – but all are welcomed to continue the holiday festivities and take part in the Reno Beer Crawl on Saturday, November 26 from 2:00 pm – 6:00 pm. For just $5 you get a wrist band, map and commemorative cup and receive drink specials at as many as 20 different bars participating, all in walking distance in the heart of Reno. Black Friday Shopping
Reno come barring good news this holiday season. You and your wallet will be okay with our killer and local Black Friday shopping deals. The Reno MidTown area has glorified and expanded itself into a hip passageway where food, art and locally owned indie stores come together to form and eventful community. Here you can see most of MidTown districts shopping community taking part in Black Friday followed by Small Business Saturday, which is dedicated to smaller businesses where you can purchase your loved ones a more personalized gift all while contributing to the community.
