What You’ll Need:

  • 2 ounces Vapor Distillery Pumpkin King Liqueur
  • 1/4 ounce St Elizabeth All Spice Dram15043744_1122719034473372_3893686667583684608_n
  • 1/2 ounce Lazzaroni Amaretto
  • 1/2 ounce Blis Vanilla Maple Syrup
  • 1 ounce vanilla almond milk
  • Orange bitters
  • Cinnamon graham crumbs

Whipped Cream:

  • 1 1/2 cups heavy cream
  • 8 ounces cream cheese
  • 1 ounce Amaretto
  • 1 cup sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt

Fill shaker with liqueurs, vanilla maple syrup, almond milk and orange bitters – add ice. Cap and shake for 10 seconds. Strain with a cocktail strainer into a clear coffee mug, then top with whipped cream (directions below) and garnish with the crumbled cinnamon grahams.

To make the whipped cream – whip the heavy cream until it forms peaks. Set aside. In a separate bowl, mix cream cheese, 1 ounce of amaretto, sugar and salt, and whip until the texture is creamy. Mix this into the heavy cream and scoop into an icing bag.

Salty – Savory – Sweet | Mulled German Wine “Gluhwein”

Your jaw just might drop when you see the array display of fine spices, herbs, blends and teas sold by the ounce at Salty-Savory-Sweet in MidTown Reno. They have two recipes featuring their Sweet Mulling Spice blend and both are perfect ways to warm up this holiday season.

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 tablespoons Mulling Spice Blend – tied in cheesecloth or placed in muslin bag12317641_452749314909211_1742202305_n
  • 1 medium lemon, sliced
  • 1 medium orange, sliced
  • 1 medium red apple, sliced
  • 1 1/4 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 1/4 cups water
  • 2 (750 milliliter) bottles dry red wine
  • 1 cup brandy
  • Cinnamon sticks for garnish

Place the Mulling Spice Blend bundle in the saucepan, add the sugar and water. Place the pan over medium-high heat, bringing the mixture to a simmer while stirring to dissolve the sugar. Reduce the heat to low and continue to simmer, stirring occasionally, until the mixture is reduced by about 1/3, about 20 minutes.

Add the red wine and brandy, sliced lemon, orange and apple, stir to combine, and bring just to a simmer – do not let it boil. Remove from the heat and remove and discard the spice bundle, lemon slices and orange slices before serving, but leave apple for presentation. Pour into cups and garnish with cinnamon sticks. The recipe can also be prepared in a crock-pot, set to low and enjoyed throughout the day.

Salty – Savory – Sweet | Mulled Apple Cider

What You’ll Need:

  • 3 tablespoons Mulling Spice Blend – tied in cheesecloth or placed in muslin bag5869_1716703528565867_1412148752404369368_n
  • 1 cup maple syrup or 1 cup dark brown sugar
  • 1/2 gallon unfiltered apple cider (not juice)
  • Juice from 1/2 lemon
  • 1 cup dark rum (optional)

Pour apple cider into a large saucepan, add maple syrup (or brown sugar) and stir until dissolved. Add Mulling Spice Blend and bring almost to a boil. Add lemon juice.

Reduce the heat to its lowest setting and simmer for 30 minutes, or alternatively you may transfer hot cider to crock-pot and simmer on low through the day. Lastly, add desired rum for an extra kick before pouring into hot cider.

Whiskey Tango Globetrot | Cereal Milk Punch

You will certainly enjoy this cocktail infused with holiday spirit created by local writer/photographer/cocktail maker, Spencer Spellman, from Whiskey Tango Globetrot.
