Play in Reno Before You Play on the Playa
Before you head to the Black Rock Desert to play on the playa, make a pit stop and play in Reno! Here are some Pre Burning Man Events in the Reno Sparks area to help you get ready for Black Rock City.
Morris Burner Hostel is an eclectic space, representative of burner culture. Through the month of August, Morris Burner Hostel is presenting Burn Month, a month full of events before the burn. If you need to make some last minute preparations before heading to Black Rock City, you’re in luck, because they have something going on every day leading up to the burn!
Gift Making – Since no money is exchanged in Black Rock City, gifts are a common currency. If you’re short on gifts to exchange out on the playa, they can help you with that.
Costuming – No outfit is too crazy out on the playa and you’ll want to keep your feet protected! Learn how to make boot covers, tie dye, and some other last minute costuming fixes.
Burner Education Sessions – Whether you’re new to Black Rock City or have called it home before, attend a Burner Education Session at the Morris Burner Hostel every Wednesday leading up to the burn.
775 Shufflers and Drum Circle – If you happen to be heading to the burn later in the week, get ready by watching the 775 Shufflers on August 28, or attend the Drum Circle and Belly Dance Jam on August 29.
The Siren Society is bringing the Burning Man vibes to Reno on August 18 at The Saint with a black light burlesque show. Admission is $5 and doors open at 9 pm. Grab a drink before the show starts at 10 pm!
Get in the Burning Man spirit with Reno Street Food. On August 19, Food Truck Friday at Idlewild Park is hosting a Burning Man send off and welcomes you to dress in your most exotically fabulous Burning Man attire. To go along with your Burning Man attire, there will be a controlled burn, glow show, and art cars!

If you haven’t already read how to prepare for the burn, getting around on the playa is a lot easier with two wheels! Reno Bike Project is a must for many burners to gear up for a week on the playa. On August 20, Reno-Sparks Open Streets is bringing the Cyclovia movement to Sparks. The event will feature food vendors, yoga classes, dance sessions, and health tips. Explore the vehicle-free streets of Sparks by foot or bike while learning the value of going green, just in time for Burning Man!
