Nevada Day 2016: Celebrate the Silver State
Happy Birthday, Nevada! October 31, 1864 is the day the Silver State became a state and Nevadans have declared the last Friday of October to be Nevada Day. Here are some ways to celebrate this special day this weekend and year-round.
Take the Day Off
Nevada Day is an official state holiday so many businesses take the last Friday of the month off to celebrate. If you’re free on Friday and feeling Battle Born, explore Nevada’s beauty whether it’s supporting local business or taking in the breathtaking views of Nevada landscape whether its wild horses near Virginia City, breathtaking views of Lake Tahoe, or fall foliage decorating the Truckee River.
One of the best things about fall in #RenoTahoe is the gorgeous weather at Lake Tahoe. . See more of our fall favorites on our blog. Link in bio. . Posted today by @theninopup #DogsofRenoTahoe #LakeTahoe #fall #TahoeNorth #autumn #tahoedogs #travel #tahoe

Nevada Day Parade
Nevada Day is the largest statehood celebration in the nation! The highlight is the Nevada Day Parade in the state’s capital, Carson City, which is 30 miles south of Reno. This year the parade takes place on Saturday, October 29. Festivities begin at 8am with a hot air balloon launch and the parade from 10am-2pm. There are several activities to enjoy throughout this exciting day including Senator Heller’s Chili Feed and a tour of the Governor’s Mansion.
Run it Out
Doesn’t everyone love an excuse to go out on a run? Check out the 27th Nevada Day Classic to Benefit Guide Dogs for the Blind–An annual event since 1989, The Nevada Day Classic, presented by the Tahoe Mountain Milers, brings together more than 1000 runners and their furry friends. Because it is Halloween weekend, costumes are adorable and encouraged.
Enjoy Nevada Inspired Art
Love actually… is all around. And so is Nevada inspired art! The open field in iconic Nevada shape at historic Bartley Ranch is a prime spot for a celebratory photo shot. Check out some of the 60+ murals in Midtown Reno created by local artists, including a Battle Born flag inspired mural on the street in front of Junkee’s on Virginia Street.
Celebrate With Swag
Battle Born, Wild West, there are several ways to identify yourself as a Nevadan (or maybe just Nevadan in spirit, which is totally cool too). Wear your pride on your sleeve, literally, with some cool local finds. Tahoe Nevada Love, located in The Basement in downtown Reno, is giving a 10% discount on everything in their store all weekend plus a giveaway if you spend over $50. Known for their selection of unique goods from around the world, La Galleria in South Reno also has an amazing selection of handmade Nevada goods that make a perfect gift for someone, or yourself!
