June Arts & Culture in Reno Tahoe
Now is the time of year when we start to see large events taking place to celebrate local, talented artists and performers. Adding a nearly month-long festival celebrating history and culture to our already growing arts scene is the cherry on top of the month of June.
Every first Thursday of the month take a tour of beautiful works of art in downtown Reno. While you’re there you’ll be entered into a raffle, have the chance to purchase a special edition wine glass and enjoy food and drink specials at surrounding restaurants. $5 will get you into the walk starting at 5:00 p.m.
Art and animals are a seriously wonderful pairing. This wildlife-themed art walk has rounded up 15 MidTown businesses to create works of art that incorporate the residents of Animal Ark. You’ll see nods to El Santo the jaguar, Gracie the bear and even Mr. Peabody the tortoise. Join in on this free event from May 20-June 12.
This year’s theme, The Culture of Food, will give attendees the chance to explore the world of culinary creations and influences. Go behind the scenes of a downtown hot spot, enjoy a foodie film fest and discuss the future of food. Nevada Humanities is also one of the longest-running Chautauqua festivals in the nation and hosts performances by Great Basin Young Chautauqua. The event will run from June 10-24.
See this cleverly crafted dark comedy with some of your favorite Simpsons characters brought to life on stage. This is the northern Nevada premiere presentation after the show ran on the stages of New York for several years. See it June 3-25 at Brüka Theatre.
This mysterious production challenges the audience to think further into reality and the idea of a higher power. A new play, it was written by a native Nevadan who has previously produced several theater productions and contributed work to local theaters. The play runs June 14-19 at Reno Little Theater.
